Clarence Hackett - 2015 Lifetime Stewardship Achievement Award Honoree
Clarence Hackett has served as a model Southern Baptist stewardship leader for over 3 decades. He is possibly one of the most accomplished Southern Baptist stewardship writers and education leaders in the last 25 years.
Clarence trusted Christ as personal Savior at the age of 15 and was baptized in the Greensboro Baptist Church in Greensboro, Maryland. He accepted the call of God to the Christian ministry at the age of 16.
Clarence attended Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1967; followed by achieving his Master of Divinity degree in 1971 from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He earned the Doctor of Ministry degree in 1984, conferred by the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Clarence served as pastor of churches in Kentucky, Ohio and Florida prior to coming into leadership on the Florida Baptist Convention staff where for 29 years, Clarence led stewardship and Cooperative Program services. While at the Florida Baptist Convention, he served as Associate Director of the Promotion Office between 1984 - 1987; Director of the Stewardship Department from 1987-2010 and lead team strategist of the Stewardship Team from 2011 - 2014.
Clarence Hackett served twice as President of the Stewardship Department Association, SDA - a partnership of state Baptist convention stewardship directors who produce stewardship resources that are available in the Southern Baptist Convention.
Hackett authored books: Practical Ideas for Year-round Stewardship, and How to Grow a Strong Stewardship Church and Christian Financial Planning. Clarence was the creator and designer of the Building for the Future capital campaign, which enabled Florida Baptist churches to raise approximately 160 million dollars.
Clarence is married to Joanne and holds a favorite promise of God: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
